Raising income with BSH online is wrong, says Dr M…
Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has repeatedly criticized the government policy of 1Malaysia People’s Aid, also known as BSH online policy. He has repeated it again saying that the cash assistance is being given to the ungrateful people who do not even understand the importance of that hard earned money. In a recent interview with a blogger Din Turtle, Dr. Mahathir raised questions on the policy and the need of giving RM500 to the people who is earning RM 4,000 monthly.
He also claimed that around 17,000 Chinese people have rejected these cash payout in Ipoh. Dr. Mahathir said that he is not against the fiscal policies but that he disagreed with BSH online because I don’t like feeding people with free money. Dr Mahathir gave his views in the interview uploaded on the Din Turtle blog yesterday. He gave an example of a family In Langkawi living in terrible conditions in roofless house.
He explained that he does not have any problem if money is given to such people, but he indeed has a problem if money is given to ungrateful people. In a recent Television interview aired on TV3, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had informed the public that Dr. Mahathir had two agendas—to scrap the BSH 2020 and to revive the crooked bridge linking of Johor to Singapore’s side of Causeway and probably these are two reasons which caused the current onslaught of allegations from the former PM. In his interview to Din Turtle, Dr Mahathir claimed that while his government worked by creating more jobs and improving education, current government is making fool of the citizens by collecting taxes at one end and giving money to them via BSH online. He said that the country should focus on creating more jobs so as to allow the people to improve their standard of living, rather than handing out the free money.
The increase in BSH online payouts was announced under Budget this year in October. The amount will be increased to RM750 in place of RM450 for the households that earn between RM 3,000 and RM 4,000 monthly, whereas payouts for the families with income of RM3,000 per month and below will get from RM950 to RM 650. As per the international news wire Reuters, going by the basis of distribution schedule if previous year, this expansion in BSH payout is expected to be worth of around RM13 billion in year 2019.
Former Prime Minister retaliated against the announcements by saying that it is high time that he should speak. There is no more time for diplomacy and that he is openly going to push for Najib’s resignation. He further added that Prime Minister is not able to justify his actions in the scandal with 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) which link him to the murder case of Altantuya Shaariibuu. This has put the current government, Barisan Nasional’s (BN), rule at risk. He said that he strongly criticize these payouts to the undeserving people through the policy of BSH, which should have been scrapped long ago.
